Getting to the clinic from Hyderabad
The M-9 motorway is the usual route, and coaches run between the two cities through the day. A car is easier with a fresh stump or crutches, because you can stop and stretch. Once in Karachi, allow extra time for traffic at peak hours on the way to University Road.
Day visits, spaced to suit you
Because you can go home between visits, the steps can be spread to suit work and family: the assessment and casting on one day, the test socket a few days to a week later, then the final fitting and training. Many patients find this gentler than one long stay, and it gives the skin time to get used to each stage.
Diabetes, accidents and the stump
As across Pakistan, many amputations in and around Hyderabad follow diabetic foot wounds, and others follow road accidents. A stump after diabetic surgery needs a softer socket, a slower start and daily skin checks; our page on legs after diabetic amputation explains why.
Before the leg: getting the stump ready
If the surgery was recent, the weeks before the first visit matter. A shrinker sock, keeping the knee and hip straight, and daily skin checks prepare the stump for a socket. Our page on stump care and shrinkers shows what to do.
