Getting to Karachi from Larkana
Most families travel by road, south along the Indus Highway or across to the national highway, by car or by coach. Others go to Sukkur or Rohri for a train. However you travel, plan rest stops and keep the stump elevated when you can.
A leg for farm work and village life
Many patients from rural Sindh walk on unpaved lanes, work in the fields and sit on the floor at home. Tough, simple parts that are easy to repair suit this life. A multiaxial foot copes better with uneven ground than a solid foot, and some families prefer a Jaipur Foot for walking barefoot in the house. We talk through daily life at the assessment before choosing parts.
Staying in Karachi for the visits
Many Larkana families stay with relatives in Karachi. With the stump ready, a new leg usually fits into one to two weeks: casting on the first visit, the test socket within days, then fitting and training. If anything would delay it, such as a sore that must heal first, we tell you straight away rather than keep you waiting.
Caring for the leg far from the clinic
Dust and mud get into feet, locks and valves, so clean the leg daily and keep it dry. Check the stump with a mirror every evening. If something changes, send us a photo or video on WhatsApp before deciding whether to travel.
