Getting to Karachi from Jacobabad
Most families travel by road, south through Sukkur or along the Indus Highway, and others take the train. In summer, travel at night or early in the morning, carry water, and take the leg off to rest the stump during long stops.
Building a leg for extreme heat
In Jacobabad's summers, sweat inside a socket or liner is the biggest everyday problem. Some users do best with socks and a breathable socket they can take off easily; others prefer a liner they remove and dry at midday. A spare liner, daily washing and careful skin checks all help. We choose the liner and socket with the heat in mind, not just the stump.
Choosing when to come
If you can choose, the cooler months make both the journey and the first weeks in a new leg easier. Once you are here, the visits run close together, with the final fitting and training at the end of the stay. If the stump is still settling, a temporary leg lets you go home walking and return for the final socket when it is cooler.
Skin care when it is very hot
Heat rash, blisters and fungal infections are more common in extreme heat. Wash and dry the stump every evening, keep the liner clean, and never wear a wet liner. Any broken skin means resting the leg and calling us.
