Why a cover matters to many people
For some, the artificial leg is simply a tool, and the bare pylon is fine. For many others, especially at weddings, at Eid, at school or at work, a leg that looks like a leg under clothing means fewer questions and more privacy. Both choices are right. We make sure the cover does not get in the way of how the leg works.
Foam, hard shell or silicone
Foam covers are light and look natural under clothes, but the foam slowly crumbles and needs replacing every few years. Hard protective covers keep their shape and protect the parts underneath. Custom silicone covers are the most realistic, with skin tone, veins and nails matched to the other leg, and are worth considering when the leg is often seen bare.
Covers on above knee legs
Above the knee, a foam cover has to bend with the knee, so it wears fastest at the knee crease. Some knees, including many microprocessor knees, need their own special covers or must stay uncovered for cooling or charging. We tell you what is possible for your knee.
Caring for a cover
Keep foam covers dry and away from heaters and hot car seats. Replace the stocking when it ladders or fades. Clean silicone covers with mild soap and water. If the cover tears, bring it in; a torn cover can trap grit against the moving parts.

Does a cover make the leg heavier?
Slightly. Foam covers are light; silicone covers add more weight. For most users the difference is small.
